2026 Top 100 Names to Know Returning to High School Hockey
In a year where some of the best prospects in the game don’t play for traditional blue blood programs
Craig Peterson
November 5, 2026
Alright, I’m ready to unveil my fifth annual Top 100 Names to Know Returning to High School Hockey. That’s right, I’ve delivered more than 500 of the top prospects in Michigan dating back to 2020, and we continue six years later with one of the more diverse and deep lists I’ve ver assembled. I’ve got 59 seniors, 39 juniors and 2 sophomores from 67 different programs across the state. As a reminder, this is not a list of the best players in the high school hockey; it was never meant to be. Now, many of the prospects on this list are in fact the best in the game. But there’s talented players left off this list every year for others who might not be as gifted. That’s where impact to the team comes into play, who plays a more pivotal role for their respective program?
The criteria hasn’t changed over the years. I consider these four things when selecting players for the Top 100 Names to Know, and assemble them in the order I see fit:
1. Returning players only
2. Impact and importance to their respective team
3. Overall skill and ability
4. Prospect potential to play beyond high school
Feel free to debate, comment, DM and share your thoughts but let’s start the conversation with the Top 100 here...
100. Kaiser Ascencio, Troy United Junior Forward
The 2009-born prospect enters his junior year on the heels of back-to-back 40-point seasons. Kaiser Ascencio is one of the more impactful scorers in the OAA heading into this winter.
99. Jacob Joffe, Dexter Junior Forward
Jacob Joffe scored 54 points as a sophomore in his first season of varsity hockey. All of that happening in a secondary scoring role; he’ll likely be the Dreadnaughts’ go-to-guy this season.
98. Caileb Peterson, Chippewa Valley United Senior Forward
He enters his third season with Chippewa Valley United, finishing second on the team in scoring as a junior. Caileb Peterson is part of a senior class that’s got big plans for CVU this winter.
97. Maden Brady, Lumen Christi Senior Defenseman
Spent this fall in the Michigan Developmental Hockey League (MDHL), and enters his fourth season of varsity hockey at the top of his game. Maden Brady’s got 75 games of experience, averaging nearly a point per game in his career.
96. Caden Jones, Gibraltar Carlson Senior Defenseman
A tournament team prospect for MDHL’s 18U group this fall. Caden Jones enters his senior season as the Marauders’ top prospect with 17 goals and 42 points in his varsity career from the blue line.
95. Jameson Meendering, Sparta Senior Defenseman
Finished third on the team in scoring a season ago but looks to take on an even larger role in his fourth season of varsity hockey. Jameson Meendering has played more than 80 games at this level and could break 100 total before his career is over.
94. Anderson Ward, Petoskey Senior Defenseman
Anderson Ward has recorded three straight 30-point seasons, including back-to-back 40-point campaigns. With more than 100 career points, he is one of the state’s most productive defensemen in the modern era.
93. Joseph Tringali, L’anse Creuse Unified Senior Forward
Led LCU in scoring last season with 43 points. If the program wants to repeat its 15 wins from a season ago, Joseph Tringali will certainly have to be a key point in the team’s offensive production.
92. Isaiah Norwood, Jackson United Junior Defenseman
Jackson United elevates its schedule this season by joining the South Central Hockey League (SCHL). They may lean on second-year D-man Isaiah Norwood even more as the slate of opponents gets more difficult.
91. Nick Iacco, Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard Junior Defenseman
A third-year guy for the Irish, who’s never been a high volume point producer. Nick Iacco is coming off of a really good fall campaign with Michigan Hockey Advancement (MHA) 18U Navy, impacting the game in a variety of ways.
90 Danny Gabriel, Midland Dow Senior Defenseman
He’s coming off of a fall season with the 18U Bay County Blizzard in which he scored five goals and 13 points. Danny Gabriel is more prepared and ready for the start of the season than any other in his four-year career.
89. Cori Hastoy, Novi Senior Forward
A speedy forward who produces everywhere he goes. Cori Hastoy led the Wildcats last season in scoring, and then averaged a point per game in the MDHL this fall as well. Expect him to put up numbers once again.
88. Logan Scheidt, Lakes Area Junior Defenseman
A multi-sport athlete committed to play baseball for the University of Michigan. Logan Scheidt’s skills on the ice are next level as well, having scored 61 goals and 118 points in 52 career games.
87. Robert Councilor, Traverse City West Senior Forward
Robert Councilor produced at a point-per-game pace last season for Traverse City West. He enters the season with the potential to be a key leader and offensive contributor for the Titans once again.
86. Krey Anderson, West Ottawa Senior Forward
Krey Anderson is a physically imposing forward whose size can create matchup problems. His frame and offensive potential make him a player to watch in West Ottawa’s lineup, having scored 10-plus goals in back-to-back seasons.
85. Cullen McGowan, Divine Child Junior Defenseman
The third-year junior has already seen more than 50 games at the varsity level, producing at an impressive pace. Cullen McGowan could emerge as a top D-man in the Class of 2028 this season.
84. Elliot Mason, Bay Reps Senior Defenseman
He’s grown and filled out this offseason, with size to go along with his footwork, speed and puck skills. Elliot Mason is a well-rounded prospect who will be the cornerstone of the Reps’ success this season.
83. Kaiden DuRussel, Bay City Senior Forward
There aren’t many players in the state who will be depended on to produce as much as Kaiden DuRussel this season. The 2009-born prospect might need to match his 30 goals and 61 points last season.
82. Ethan Ivity, Wyandotte Senior Defenseman
He’s unofficially officially the biggest prospect in Michigan high school hockey at 6-foot-7 and 192 pounds. Ethan Ivity takes up half the rink with his wingspan and will be a difficult riddle to solve for oncoming forwards off the rush.
81. Aidan Daugherty, Trenton Junior Defenseman
The Trojans are a bit of a mystery heading into this winter under a new coaching staff and an uncharacteristically quiet offseason. I’m very curious to see where Aidan Daugherty makes his impact this winter.
80. Lucas Goerke, Northville Senior Forward
Lucas Goerke is one of only a few key returning forwards following the program’s state-final appearance last March. His presence will be important as the Mustangs work through a roster transition.
79. Levi Weinberger, Huron Valley Senior Forward
On a team that had plenty of offensive weapons last season, it was Levi Weinberger who led the Titans in scoring with 21 goals. In his second season with Huron Valley, I expect Weinberger to once again be a major contributor.
78. Mark Braden, Grand Haven Senior Forward
Missed most of the ‘25-26 season, but after a strong fall, looks to be in line for a big senior year. The Buccaneers could be in line for a bounceback season with Mark Braden and a few others slated to return.
77. Ethan Rule, Portage Senior Forward
Enters his third season for the Muskies as a point-per-game guy with 40-plus games under his belt. Ethan Rule finished his junior year with a point in 13 of the last 16 games and I expect him to pick up right where he left off.
76. Harry Spencer, Country Day Senior Defenseman
Hasn’t been a high volume guy for the Yellowjackets in his career, but after recent graduations, will have to fill a large role on the back end. It’s happening at the right time for Harry Spencer coming off a strong fall with MHA 18U Navy.
75. Rusty Boyle, Midland Junior Forward
A top producer this fall for the 18U Bay County Blizzard after being the Chemics’ top scorer last season. Rusty Boyle’s an offensive threat that needs to be accounted for by opposing teams.
74. Ethan Walker, Alpena Senior Defenseman
Ethan Walker has played in 77 career games at the varsity level, and is one of only a few Wildcats to be a part of the ‘25 Final Four team. They’ll lean on his experience and production to have success this winter.
73. Luke Raschke, Livonia Stevenson Junior Goalie
He only played in four games last season, but the Spartans will lean on Luke Raschke heavily as they break in a young team. He played in the MDHL this fall and even represented the league on their 16U tournament team.
72. Owen Schroeder, Grandville Junior Forward
Another member of the MDHL’s 16U tournament team, Owen Schroeder scored eight goals and 11 points this fall for league champion MDHL Green. He’s in line to make a significant jump in production in Year 2 with the Bulldogs.
71. Connor Brink, Farmington United Junior Forward
Connor Brink is a compact player who uses his speed and creativity to make plays. He has 16 goals and 39 points in two seasons with Farmington United and should be considered one of the top offensive threats in the LVC.
70. Parker Moore, GRCC Senior Defenseman
A rangy, athletic defender who covers a lot of ground with his skates and his reach. Parker Moore was stout defensively this fall for 18U West-Michigan Varsity White.
69. Daniel Ramos, OLSM Senior Forward
He very quietly produced 30 points last season skating behind four other guys who exceeded him in production. Daniel Ramos has had a big fall campaign in the MDHL though, so he won’t be ‘hiding’ much longer.
68. Tucker Spaulding, Midland Junior Forward
He reminds me a little bit of Bode Farr, in terms of challenging himself this offseason with spring and fall training. Tucker Spaulding scored 14 goals in 21 games in the MDHL and looks ripe for a breakout this winter.
67. Nolan Geno, Forest Hills North-Eastern Senior Forward
A four-year guy for the Husky-Hawks who has a ton of skill and ability. With 79 career games under his belt, I’d like to see Nolan Geno emerge as FHNE’s No. 1 scoring option this winter.
66. Jackson Hamel, South Lyon Junior Forward
Jackson Hamel has the puck skills and finishing ability to emerge as a major offensive threat for South Lyon. He could take a significant step forward in his third season with the program.
65. Gage Potter, GRCC Sophomore Forward
Led the Cougars in scoring as a freshman last season. Gage Potter also won a 16U Tier-2 state championship with MHA Royal this fall, and is quickly building an impressive high school hockey resume.
64. Finn Aprea, Anchor Bay Junior Forward
Finn Aprea scored 25 goals and 40 points in his first varsity season. I look for him to build off of that immediate impact he had for Anchor Bay, and become a statewide standout in Year 2.
63. Mikey Swader, Clarkston Junior Forward
The Wolves needs playmakers this season. Mikey Swader’s going to be thrust into a major role and depended on to produce. A strong fall with MHA’s 16U Royal squad has him primed to step in and contribute.
62. Theo Partridge, Grand Rapids Christian Junior Forward
Theo Partridge led the Eagles in scoring with 41 points last season. He’ll be a top offensive threat to watch in the uber-competitive OK Conference, and just might emerge as one of the better playmakers in the Class of 2028.
61. Carter Nissen, Northville Junior Goalie
Carter Nissen went 9-2-0 in 13 appearances while splitting time in goal last season. With a larger share of the workload expected, he could be in line for a breakout senior campaign on a team that’ll rely on him heavily.
60. Adalar Hovis, Grosse Ile Senior Forward
He’s one of the highest scoring players that are active in high school hockey right now. Adalar Hovis has produced not one, not two, but three 30-point seasons in his time with Grosse Ile and I expect him to do it one more time.
59. Wesley Mattila, Houghton Junior Defenseman
Less about what he’s done at the varsity level and more about what I think he will do this winter for the Gremlins. Just 17 career points in two seasons but was a member of Team Michigan last spring as a top prospect in the Class of 2029.
58. Charlie Finch, East Grand Rapids Junior Goalie
One-half of the best goaltending duo in the state. Charlie Finch maintains a sub-2.00 goals-against average and 90.0 percent save percentage over his 40-game career.
57. Hayden Taylor, Reeths-Puffer Senior Forward
Hayden Taylor has scored 20 goals in each of the past two seasons and has produced at a point-per-game pace with MDHL Green this fall. Opponents have to account for him at all times in all three phases of the game.
56. Reston Cicco, Cranbrook Senior Forward
The Cranes are in need of offense this winter and Reston Cicco steps in at the right time. He showed what he was capable of as a junior, with 14 goals and 29 points. He’s earned an even bigger slice of the offensive pie as a senior.
55. Kole Boike, Divine Child Junior Forward
With 100-plus points in two seasons, Kole Boike has done everything he can at the regional level with DC in the Metro League. Up next is statewide recognition by way of a deep playoff run, Team Michigan or other fall programming.
54. Jordan Stanley, Stoney Creek Senior Forward
After a two-year hiatus on the AAA circuit, Jordan Stanley returns to the Cougars for his senior season. This was a prospect who scored 15 goals and 28 points as a freshman back in ‘23-24.
53. Joel Ziecina, Bay Reps Senior Defenseman
A smooth skater who walks the blue line with grace and effectiveness. Joel Ziecina has been patrolling the back end for the Reps for four years now, coming off of a fall season where he was a top D-man in the MDHL.
52. Gabriel Supuk, Caledonia Senior Defenseman
Peaked at the right time last winter as Caledonia made its playoff push. Six of Gabriel Supuk’s 21 points came in the final month of the season; I’m confident he carries that momentum into his senior season.
51. Daniel Avery, Howell Junior Defenseman
Daniel Avery is a strong puck-moving defenseman who impacts the game in all three zones. He could take on a larger offensive role this season and I expect him to be a major contributor for the Highlanders.
50. Keegan Korpi, South Lyon Senior Goalie
Keegan Korpi is a 6-foot-2, athletic goaltender who competes hard. After posting a 13-4-1 record last season, he enters the season as a proven option in net with a AAA background and resume to match.
49. Jack Hohendorf, Sparta Sophomore Defenseman
If you don’t know him now, you will soon. Jack Hohendorf has a high motor and flies up and down the ice as a primary scoring option while also being a stout defender. I love his pace of play.
48. Parker Sheffer, Marysville Junior Forward
A wiry forward who played well partnered with now graduated Luke Thick. Parker Sheffer now emerges as the Vikings’ primary scoring option on the heels of a sophomore season in which he scored 15 goals and 38 points.
47. Sam Beebe, Flint Powers Junior Forward
He’s emerged as a viable scoring option opposite of Powers’ No.1 guy Owen Perry. Sam Beebe has had a really productive offseason and looks to take on a significant role increase in his second season with the Chargers.
46. Santino Venturini, Riverview Gabriel Richard Senior Forward
Named to Team Michigan last spring, Santino Venturini enters his fourth season with the Pioneers backed by a ton of optimism. If they’re to improve upon the program’s 14 wins from a season ago, Venturini will be a big reason why.
45. Emmett Pilch, OLSM Senior Forward
One of only a couple Eaglets to experience both the highs and lows of a state championship game. Emmett Pilch will hope to make it a third straight trip to Plymouth, albeit, with a better outcome than last March.
44. Henry Hannibal, Country Day Junior Forward
Finished third on the team in scoring in his first season of varsity hockey. I expect Henry Hannibal to take a huge step in Year 2 and be a top forward in the Metro League this winter.
43. Lewis Gardine, Grandville Senior Defenseman
Lewis Gardine is a well-rounded defenseman who combines size and smooth puck movement with dependable defensive play. He’s a reliable, first-pass guy who’s scored 28 goals and 70 points in his career.
42. Connor Helminen, Hancock Junior Forward
Connor Helminen led Hancock in scoring as a sophomore with 17 goals and 37 points. His production at a young age makes Helminen one of the top prospects in the Class of 2028.
41. Brody McNamara, Divine Child Junior Forward
Brody McNamara delivered a 50-point season and helped Divine Child capture both league and regional championships. He enters the year as a proven offensive leader and a player to watch in the Metro League.
40. Michael Taucher, Riverview Gabriel Richard Senior Forward
Michael Taucher led Riverview Gabriel Richard in scoring with 18 goals and 36 points last season. With much of that production coming in MIHL play, he has shown he can make an impact against top competition.
39. Blake Heltunen, Jeffers Junior Defenseman
Blake Heltunen was a key contributor to Jeffers’ successful 19-win campaign and conference-leading finish. He is a defenseman to watch as the Jets aim to make it a three-peat in the Great Lakes Conference this winter.
38. Gordie Young, Byron Center Senior Defenseman
Gordie Young has made notable strides over the past year and brings a rangy, 6-foot frame to the blue line. His long stride and ability to cover space quickly makes him one of the top defensemen in the state.
37. Nick Martinson, Escanaba Senior Forward
Nick Martinson really came into his own last season with a second straight 20-point season. As the Eskymos look to replace offense, they’ll look to Martinson to carry a larger role and produce even more.
36. Thad Raynish, OLSM Senior Forward
Among the top 10 active scorers in the state with 55 goals in 83 career games. Thad Raynish is in rare company as a four-year senior for the Eaglets bringing experience, leadership and production.
35. Griffin Johnson, Escanaba Junior Defenseman
After being named to Team Michigan last spring and stepping into the void left by graduated senior defenseman Nolan Bink, Griffin Johnson looks ready to take on the role of a top D-man in the Class of 2028.
34. Beau Jukuri, Calumet Senior Goalie
Beau Jukuri has made significant strides in goal over his four-year career, improving from a 3.09 goals-against average and .888 save percentage as a sophomore. His Team Michigan experience will propel him into this winter.
33. Ty Inglis, Cap City Junior Goalie
Started just eight games as a sophomore but now looks to be the Caps’ No. 1 option between the pipes this season. Ty Inglis posted a 10-3-0 record with a 90.7 save percentage and 1.77 goals-against average this fall for 18U state champion MHA Red.
32. Drew Murphy, Brother Rice Senior Defenseman
A third-year defenseman for Brother Rice that the program will lean on heavily for leadership and experience. Drew Murphy will play a big role on and off the ice if the Warriors are to bounce back from their six-win season last winter.
31. George Nulty, Mattawan Junior Forward
One of the more decorated prospects in the Class of 2028. George Nulty has won a national championship, made Team Michigan and enters his third season with 21 career goals and 43 career points.
30. Jagger Kimber, Orion-Oxford Senior Goalie
Jagger Kimber gives his team a chance to win every time he takes the net. He proved he’s a top prospect at the position this fall by leading MHA 18U Red to a Tier-2 MAHA state championship.
29. Brady Nolfo, Marysville Senior Defenseman
Brady Nolfo has been on my radar as a promising defenseman since his sophomore season. He continues to get better and better, and now looks to be in line for his best campaign yet. Back-to-back 20-point seasons for the 5-foot-9 prospect.
28. Sean Goff, DCC Senior Forward
He played forward this fall in the MDHL, and if Sean Goff does in fact move up from defense, I think it could prove to be a good one. He scored 13 goals and 31 points finishing sixth on a Shamrocks team that was deep offensively last season.
27. Lincoln Frantti, Howell Junior Forward
Lincoln Frantti displays great size and a flashy skill set. He’s creative in the way he gets to the net and other scoring areas. Frantti has 18 goals and 46 points through two seasons playing in one of the top conferences in high school hockey.
26. Elliott Fricano, Forest Hills Central Junior Forward
A special talent who plays a full 200-foot game. Elliott Fricano impacts the play in all three zones and his importance can’t be measured by stats. Arguably the best forward on MHA 16U Royal this fall.
25. Remy Finney, U of D Jesuit Junior Defenseman
I love the way Remy Finney gets up and down the ice with the play. He’s heady enough to lead the offense while also being responsible to come back and defend with a purpose. Finney’s 6-foot-1 frame coupled with his speed makes him a unique prospect.
24. Julian Meyer, Flint Powers Senior Defenseman
He scored seven goals and 47 points as a first-year junior, helping Powers defend its Division-II state title. Julian Meyer will have his work cut out for him this winter if the Chargers are to three-peat and defend that title successfully once again.
23. Ryder Owen, East Grand Rapids Junior Goalie
Ryder Owen posted a 1.81 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in his first varsity season. He’s quickly emerged as one of the best goalie prospects in the state, and will be a big reason for the Pioneers’ success moving forward.
22. Max Nordstrom, Jeffers Junior Forward
He played a major role in the Jets’ 19-win season last winter. After earning a spot on Team Michigan last spring, Max Nordstrom proved he’s not just a top prospect in the U.P., but the entire state.
21. Jake Rau, Tri-Valley Senior Defenseman
Jake Rau has been a standout in high school hockey over the past three seasons and earned Team Michigan recognition last spring. His experience and established play make him a top defenseman to watch this winter.
20. Zander Folgmann, Traverse City Central Junior Forward
Zander Folgmann has drawn attention as a potential top player in Michigan high school hockey. Averaging a point per game across two seasons, he’s proved to be a dangerous scoring threat every time he takes the ice.
19. Connor Duffany, Brighton Junior Forward
He leads a junior class of Bulldogs that have grown a ton over the last few seasons. Connor Duffany looks poised for a breakout after scoring 10 goals and 19 points in the MDHL this fall.
18. Griffin Davis, Mattawan Junior Forward
Led the Wildcats in scoring last season with 47 points, and then won a Tier-2 national championship last April. Griffin Davis wins everywhere he goes, and just might continue winning if Mattawan has the season I expect.
17. Drake Spring, Brother Rice Senior Forward
Drake Spring offers a complete game, combining puck battles and forechecking pressure with smooth playmaking and a finishing touch. He is a versatile forward who can influence shifts in a variety of ways.
16. Ben Edington, Mattawan Senior Defenseman
I love an impact defenseman, and that’s exactly what Ben Edington is. He led the Wildcats in goals with 23 in 29 games from the blue line last season. May be the best offensive-minded defenseman in the state.
15. Owen Perry, Flint Powers Junior Forward
He’s overprepared to be Powers’ top scoring threat. Owen Perry’s 156 career points are more than any other active player in the state. We see what he’s really capable of this winter.
14. Brody Donnelly, Houghton Senior Forward
The defending D-III state champion Gremlins may not be as deep as they were a season ago. Speedy forward Brody Donnelly may have to shoulder much more of the load this winter for Houghton to replicate its success.
13. Braelon Rodriguez, Hartland Senior Forward
I love Braelon Rodriguez’s approach to the game. He’s heady, creative and plays with pace. Watch Rodriguez come into his own as a top-line forward for the Eagles this winter.
12. Nicholas Kogut, DCC Senior Goalie
The only Wall Award recipient to return to high school hockey after receiving the honor. It’s hard to imagine Nicholas Kogut improving upon his 1.47 goals-against average and 92.2 save percentage from a season ago… but he just might!
11. Bryce Pietila, Howell Junior Forward
The highest hockey IQ of anyone on this list. So much of the game happens between the ears with Bryce Pietila. He makes an impact in so many ways and easily my favorite player from the Class of 2028.
10. Vince Walkup, Brighton Senior Defenseman
Vince Walkup made a rare impact from the blue line, leading Brighton in scoring as a junior. He returns with a chance to be a difference-maker once again, this time pushing the Bulldogs toward a deep postseason run.
9. Zavier Sarcevich, Hartland Senior Forward
He’s a bull in a china shop, pestering opposing defenders on puck retrievals and edging out opponents in puck battles. Zavier Sarcevich is the straw that stirs the drink in Hartland’s offense.
8. Brett Allen, Trenton Senior Forward
Trust the process. Brett Allen played a limited role on the Trojans’ lineup as a sophomore, only to explode last season for 23 goals and 58 points in Year 2. He made Team Michigan last spring and is now considered one of the top prospects in the Class of 2027.
7. Bryce Fletemier, Hartland Senior Forward
He was a top scorer for the Eagles last season and then led MHA 18U Red in scoring this fall with 22 goals and 36 points. Bryce Fletemier looks to be the most dangerous offensive threat on a team full of goal scorers.
6. Seth Sandstrom, Marquette Senior Forward
Seth Sandstrom is as cool as they come on the ice; amazing skater, smooth with the puck, creative playmaker. I’m not sure many teams have the resources to contain him this season, much less stop him.
5. Cole Chmielewski, Stoney Creek Senior Forward
Cole Chmielewski’s 32 goals and 73 points last season established him as a major offensive threat. A strong showing at Team Michigan further elevated his profile entering this year and he enters his senior season as a top prospect.
4. Myles Schlack, DCC Senior Defenseman
AAA background, state championship, Team Michigan member and MDHL standout. Myles Schlack is one of the best all-around prospects in the game today and will play a major role in the Shamrocks’ lineup once again this season.
3. Will Schley, Canton Senior Forward
At 6-foot-3 and 170 pounds, Will Schley brings an imposing frame and high-end speed to the forward position. After consecutive 50-point seasons, he could be among the state’s most difficult players to contain.
2. Sam Masek, DCC Senior Defenseman
Could break the MHSAA record for varsity games played, should the Shamrocks win an eighth straight state title. Sam Masek plays with great pace, he’s calm under pressure and finds ways to impact the game in a variety of ways.
1. Nolan Hizer, Rochester United Senior Forward
He’s seeing the game at another level right now. Nolan Hizer has the vision to make impact plays in all three zones, the skating ability to do it at top speed and the puck skills to leave opponents in the dust. Hizer scored 20 goals and 66 points last season, and he continues to elevate his game with stops at Team Michigan last spring and MHA 18U Red this fall.
Who's too high? Who's too low?? Who's not on the list that I totally missed?!
