Luke Miller
8/13/23 MHA Showcase – My favorite 2008-born defenseman at the event. He was the best skater and very noticeable every time he touched the ice. Miller’s ability to move with his hands and feet in rhythm really is a rarity, especially for this age at this level. He’s extremely comfortable with the puck on his stick, and very calmly collects pucks, gets it on his forehand, momentum going north and moving pucks in a positive way. That movement translates in the offensive zone too, he makes walking the blue line look easy and puts himself into Grade-A spots to make plays. Multiple times, he picked the puck at the wall, took a couple good strides towards middle ice to suck the defender over, then put the brakes on and went against the grain to let a shot go through an open shooting lane. Compete level and gap control is real solid defensively as well. Didn’t feel like he ever overdid it with Mohawks or unnecessary crossovers that took him off his line.
