The University of Maine topped Merrimack College last Friday, 6-5 in overtime to earn its first win of the season in Hockey East. That victory was fueled by freshman defenseman David Breazeale (Grandville, 2018) who put together a three-point night, including the game-winning goal in the extra frame.

Breazeale played three seasons for Grandville, totaling 25 goals and 73 points in 80 career games. He also served as captain of the 2021 Robertson Cup champion Shreveport Mudbugs in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) before committing to Maine for the 21-22 season. He is one of more than 40 Michigan High School Hockey alumni active on NCAA Division-I rosters and is one-of-three competing in Hockey East.
With six points in 10 games, he is tied for the team lead, and is tied for fifth among conference freshmen in scoring. Breazeale’s performance this weekend earned him Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors.
