8/13/23 MHA Showcase – A little small and light, even for the 2008 birth year. However, Walkup is a really good skater who is very quick and super scrappy. He does a lot of good things with and without the puck. Does get out-muscled on occasion, given his size, but as he grows and fills out even just a little, I’d expect that to change quite a bit. Walkup shrinks the offensive zone by bleeding in to the tops of the circles. Makes himself an easier passing option and also closes down gaps quite a bit when the opposition is looking to break out. Did a real nice job of defending a particular odd-man rush. He forced the puck carrier into a decision and basically a one-way go, then pounced on him to force a turnover.
